Solution-Focused Therapy

As a solution-focused therapist, I conduct my practice based on the conviction that clients are inherently capable of creating the positive changes they seek in their lives. Solution-focused therapy aims to empower my client in his/her journey towards a more fulfilling future.

The therapeutic process supports clients in moving toward this goal by accessing and enhancing their internal strengths and resources.  It seeks to find fresh solutions to stale problems in a collaborative, positive manner.

As a solution-focused therapist, I recognize the impact of past experiences on present day lives and take my client’s past experiences into respectful consideration. However, primary emphasis is placed on clients’ present and future selves.

To support this approach, my client and I discuss his/her past story, struggles and challenges, as well as his/her current strengths and resources.

By means of guided introspection and respectful curiosity, I help clients explore and construct a concrete vision of a desired future for themselves.

The present day is compared to and contrasted with my client’s desired future. I work collaboratively with my clients to explore and help modify behaviours which they find counterproductive in their lives and to strengthen and retain those which support their desired life changes.

I work to empower my client to reach his/her preferred future by breaking down his/her ultimate goals into manageable and obtainable increments of change. With a holistic understanding of my client’s story, challenges, strengths and resources, I support my client’s progress towards his/her desired future.

Solution-focused therapy views change as an ongoing and healthy process. In using this approach, my ultimate goals are to heighten awareness, bolster internal and external resources, support the process of change, and to empower my clients to reach their full potential for happiness and fulfillment.
